What Can I do for free at the Festival?

The Festival’sCool Cars on Colorado”, Friday night 5p-7p and Saturday 10a-3p, will be free to the public, no ticket or pass will be necessary.

How do I find lodging that fits my budget?

The Town of Telluride and Mountain Village both have a wide range of accommodations for your stay. We recommend contacting one of our lodging partners to assist you with the right accommodations for your visit. You will find these Lodging Partners listed on our “Lodging Page” here on the website

Where can I camp in town other than at the campground?

No where. Neither the Town of Telluride nor the town of Mountain Village allows camping in your car or anywhere else within town limits. There are a few camp grounds in the area including one within the Telluride Town Park (the campground in Town Park does not except pre-registration however, it is first come first served). The Festival has limited Primitive (must be fully self contained) RV parking sites available for registered car owners and volunteers). I heard there was a free gondola that goes from the Town of Telluride to the Town of Mountain Village?

Yes, The gondola is free to pedestrians who want to travel between Telluride and Mountain Village. The ride between the two towns takes 13 minutes. If you are in the Town of Telluride and are planning to visit any of the events or venues in Mountain Village, the Festival strongly recommends that you use the free Gondola as parking in Mountain Village is very limited. There is an additional shorter gondola that transports riders from Mountain Village to Mountain Village Town Hall, market and parking garage. During the Festival, event attendees, mountain bikers and hikers can ride the gondola to access trails that start at Station San Sophia—the midway point. Gondola hours are from 7a to Midnight every day. Select gondolas will be outfitted with bike racks. In addition, there are handicap-accessible cars, as well as cabins designated for pets.

The Saturday Evening Event looks facinating, is it possible to purchase a ticket to just the evening event and not the whole day?

Not at this time. The whole day is worth experiencing! You can purchase a Saturday Single Day Ticket that will let you attend not only the Saturday Night Hanger 29 Special event, but you will get to see the World Class Concours event at the golf course and so much more. Come for the day, remember it for a lifetime!

If I am flying my private plane in to Telluride for the Regional fly in and want to see other venues: Is there transportation to the other venues?

Currently, the Festival does not have complimentary transportation from the Airport to downtown Telluride or the Concours in Mountain Village. You may call Angel Taxi at: 970-778-8777 for your transportation needs.

If I am flying my private plane in to Telluride for the Regional fly in and want to see other venues: Do I need to purchase festival passes or tickets?

No. If you plan to head into town after enjoying the Airport venue to view the cars on Colorado Ave or see the other venues such as the Concours in Mountain Village, then please visit our ticket booth at the airport and show your pilot license to pick up a single day ticket.

Where and when can I pick up my 4 Day Festival Pass and Single Day Tickets I purchased online?

**NO FESTIVAL PASSES OR TICKETS WILL BE SHIPPED, All Festival Passes and Single Day Tickets can be picked up at Will Call at the Festival ticket office or at any ticketed event venue, NO EXCEPTIONS. No passes or tickets will be delivered or mailed prior to the Festival.

Pick Up Information on 2017 tickets will be posted on the Cars & Colors website as soon as they are confirmed.

Festival Passes and Single Day Tickets cannot be purchased or picked up at the Cool Cars on Colorado (Telluride Main Street) venue as this venue is free and open to the public therefore, there is no ticket booth.

What is the weather like in the Telluride area in September?

The weather any time of year in Telluride can vary greatly from day to day, and sometimes hour to hour. You can generally expect temperatures averaging 64 degrees during the day in September. Please come prepared for many kinds of weather throughout your stay.

Who is eligible to participate in the Cars & Colors Medallion Hunt?

Any 4 Day Festival Pass Holder is eligible to look for and find the Cars & Colors Medallion to claim the cash prize. (Not open to TFCC Staff, Volunteers, Founding Members or TFCC Organizers’ Family Members).

Who is eligible to participate in the Cars & Colors Photo Contest?

Any 4 Day Festival Pass Holder is eligible to submit photos to the Cars & Colors Photo Contest. The contest will also be open to TFCC Volunteers if they have a 4 Day Pass. (Not open to TFCC Staff, Founding Members or TFCC Organizers’ Family Members).

Who is eligible to participate in the Cars & Colors Road Rally?

Any 4 Day Festival Pass Holder is eligible participate in the Cars & Colors Road Rally and have a chance to claim the offered prize. (Not open to TFCC Staff, Volunteers, Founding Members or TFCC Organizers’ Family Members).

Who is eligible to participate in the Cars & Colors Poker Run?

Any 4 Day Festival Pass Holder is eligible participate in the Cars & Colors Poker Run on Friday and have a chance to claim fabulous prizes. (Not open to TFCC Staff, Volunteers, Founding Members or TFCC Organizers’ Family Members).

Are the “Family Fun Excursions” included in the price of my 4 Day Festival Pass?

No. All Family Fun Excursions are booked through independent vendors and are at an additional cost. Check out our Family Fun Excursions Page.

I hear the venues at the Telluride Festival of Cars & Colors are “At Altitude”, should I take any precautions?

Before you head to Telluride, doctors suggest that you avoid alcohol for 48 hours prior to your arrival. Once in the Telluride area, you should plan on drinking lots of water (even up to a gallon a day). Drinking water is the single most important thing you can to do assist your body in adjusting to the lack of oxygen in your blood stream. The symptoms of altitude sickness include headaches, nausea, fatigue and/or shortness of breath. Altitude sickness generally disappears within 48 hours.

Do I need to buy a pass to attend the Festival?

There are some venues that you will be able to view for free during the festival such as the Cool Cars on Colorado (the main street venue). All other Cars & Colors venues and cash prize contest participation will require a 4 Day Pass or single day ticket.

Can I volunteer to help at the Festival?

Yes you can! You can Register to Volunteer for the Festival via the Cars & Colors website. We will need volunteers before and during the Festival. You can indicate on your registration form what days you are available to work. You will have the choice to work 6 hours for a Single Day Ticket or 18 hours for a full 4 Day Festival Pass.

What do I get as a volunteer?

The experience of working with some fabulous, like minded people and you will have the choice to work 6 hours for a Single Day Ticket or 18 hours for a full 4 Day Festival Pass. Additionally, volunteers will receive an official Telluride Festival of Cars & Colors item (Currently, a Cars & Colors Hat and Polo Shirt) and an Official Event Program Guide.

Will the festival profits benefit any charities?

Yes. 100%percent of all Festival Net Profits collected in the form of Car, Motorcycle and Snowmobile Registrations will be split equally between several charities that the Festival is currently working with, including The Lone Cone Legacy Trust in Norwood, CO and the Just For Kids Foundation in Telluride, CO.

Will the Festival be hiring Staff Members for the week of the Festival?

The Festival will be hiring a limited number of Staff Members leading up to and for the duration of the Festival. Please call 720-936-3689 for more details. We are specifically looking for co-venue managers that will be available at least 6 days prior to the Festival on a limited basis and full time from September 20-24, 2017.

Can I bring my dog to the Festival?

There are some lodging options that will allow you to bring your dog, and in general Telluride is a very dog friendly town. However, for everyone’s safety and the preservation of the cars involved, dogs will NOT be allowed in any of the TFCC venues. This includes dogs owned by car owners, vendors, sponsors, staff members, volunteers ect. (Service dogs will be allowed into the venues but must be visually designated as such, the dog MUST be on a leash and the dog owner takes on any and all liability).

I purchased a Pass/Ticket online; can I have it mailed to me?

No. All Festival passes and tickets must be picked up at Will-Call during the Festival, no exceptions, no passes will be mailed. Please see our Ticket Information Page for more details.

Where and when will Festival Programs be available?

Festival Programs are typically available beginning the Thursday during the Festival week. They will also be available when you pick up your Festival Pass at any of our ticketed venues throughout the Festival as well. Please see our Ticket Information Page for more details on hours of operation and pick up locations.

Other then the Car Festival, what is there to do in Telluride?

There is so much to do and see, it might actually be hard to do it all in only 4 days! We are working with local companies to provide services (at an additional cost) such as:

Where is Telluride?

Telluride is centrally located in southwestern Colorado, along the scenic San Juan Skyway. Telluride is easily accessible from a variety of locations. Driving Distances (to Telluride):

Directions from Colorado Springs - 300 miles

  • Take Route 24 west
  • Turn south on 258/24 and proceed to Route 50
  • Turn right on Route 50
  • Proceed over Monarch Pass into Gunnison and then to Montrose
  • Turn left on Townsend and follow Route 550 south to Ridgway
  • In Ridgway, turn right on Route 62
  • Follow this to Route 145 and turn left
  • Follow the signs into Telluride

  • Take Interstate 70 west to Grand Junction; go south on Route 50 to Montrose
  • Continue south on Route 550 to Ridgway, then turn right on Route 62
  • Follow this to Route 145 and turn left
  • Follow the signs into Telluride

If the Concours cars are on the Telluride Golf Course, will the Golf Course still be open?

Yes. The golf course will be open to Club Members and to the public (although maybe on a limited basis around the driving range or 18th Fairway). Telluride Ski & Golf Club members will be afforded a complimentary 4 Day Cars & Colors Festival Pass. (Please see TelSki Member Services to pick up your complimentary Pass).

What if my car is staged on the Concours and I want to see other venues during the Festival?

You may stage your car on the golf course and feel free to go enjoy the rest of the Festival. The Festival will also have volunteers on hand to watch over your vehicle  during the venue open hours.

You may also use the free Gondola to get back and forth from the Town of Mountain Village (the Concours, Motorcycle and Snowmobile venues) and the Town of Telluride (Cool Cars on Colorado). To access the Airport and the Warbird venue you may call Angel Taxi at 970-778-8777, this is not a complimentary service, attendees are responsible for the fee.

Will I need to rent a car while in Telluride if my car is staged at a venue?

If your car or motorcycle is staged in any of the Festival venues, for 1 day or 2 days, there is only a need to rent a vehicle if you would like to visit the Airport venue. All venues will be walking distance, accessible by the free gondola that runs from Telluride to Mountain Village.

You may use the free Gondola to get back and forth from the Town of Mountain Village and the Town of Telluride. Or, you may hire Angel Taxi at 970-778-8777 if you are interested in going further then the Town of Telluride or Mountain Village.

If I am having my car shipped, can I fly into Telluride?

The Telluride Regional Airport (TEX) is open for private aircraft use during September. The airport has no scheduled commercial flights at this time. The closest commercial airport is in Montrose. The drive from the Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) to Telluride is a 1 hour and 15 minute drive on well-maintained State Highways through the San Juan Mountains. Rental cars, airport transfers and shuttle services are available.

If I am flying into Montrose, is there ground transportation to Telluride?

What about parking for my trailer during the festival?

Although parking options are limited in Telluride and Mountain Village, if you are a car owner or vendor, accommodations will be made by the Festival for a location to park your trailer. You must be registered with the Festival to take advantage of this parking option. Parking passes and directions will be included in your confirmation packet.

If my car is staged at the Concours on the golf course, do I really need to keep it staged there for the whole day?

Yes. For safety reasons and to respect the conditions of the golf course fairway, all Concours vehicles are requested to remain staged for the duration of the Concours venue hours for that specific day, 10am-3pm. In cases of extreme inclement weather, cars will be given the opportunity to be moved (by their owners) to a location of your choosing. The Festival does not have secured covered parking for vehicles at this time.

I am bringing my RV, is there a place to park it in town?

Neither the Town of Telluride nor Mountain Village provides overnight RV parking. Sleeping in vehicles of any kind is also prohibited. There is a camp ground at the Telluride Town Park but it is a first come first served campground (no reservations are taken). The Festival has limited, Primitive (must be fully self contained) RV parking available for pre-registered car owners and volunteers. Are Motorcycles allowed to participate in the road rally?

 Yes, as long as you have a 4 Day Festival Pass, you may use whatever means of transport you like.

What is Morning Revv, is it like ‘Cars & Coffee’? Should I bring my car?

The Morning Revv is the Cars & Colors ‘get Revved up for the day’ event. Each morning (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from 9a-10a Festival attendees will gather at the Morning Revv at the Cars & Colors Lounge for complimentary coffee and to listen to the day’s schedule of events, be informed of any changes, weather advisories or event additions. The Morning Revv is also where the Medallion clues will be disclosed. All 4 day pass holders are eligible to participate in the Medallion Hunt and win the cash prize. Unlike the national ‘Cars & Coffee’ events, you will be discouraged from bringing your car due to the extreme lack of parking.

How do I sign up for the Road Rally?

If you have a 4 Day Festival Pass, you are eligible to participate in the Rally. You may sign up for the Rally before the Festival using the link on our website under the “Registration” tab or using the link below.

You may also registration on the day of the Rally ( You will show your festival pass, collect your “Rally Map and Passport” and have your start time logged in by a festival volunteer.

How do I chose between the different venues to stage my vehicle?

Within the “Festival Footprint” there are 4 distinct locations in which cars, motorcycles and aircraft are staged. Each location mainly features a specific group of vehicles and will run 1 to 2 days in duration depending of the featured vehicle group.

What to consider when registering your vehicle for the Telluride Festival of Cars & Colors:

Different venues are staged for different lengths of time and it is requested that your vehicle remain staged for the duration of each venue.

  • Motorcycles: This is a 2 day venue. Venue hours: 10a-3p both days. Staged on the Telluride golf course in Mountain Village. Motorcycles remain staged for the duration of the 2 days, for pedestrian and safety reasons there will be no in and out. Security will be on site overnight
  • Snowmobiles: This is a 2 day venue. Venue hours: 10a-3p both days. Staged on the Telluride golf course in Mountain Village. Snowmobiles remain staged for the duration of the 2 days, for pedestrian and safety reasons there will be no in and out. Security will be on site overnight
  • War Birds: This is a 1 day static staging: Saturday, September 23rd. Venue hours: 10a-9p. Staged at the Telluride Regional Airport, outside of Hanger 29. Aircraft are requested to arrive Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning and remain staged until Sunday morning as they will be featured in the Saturday evening event as well. Registration fee: FREE.
  • Cars:
    • American Concours : Saturday, September 23rd. Stagging on the Telluride golf course in Mountain Village. Venue hours are 10am-3pm.
    • International Concours : Sunday, September 24th. Stagging on the Telluride golf course in Mountain Village. Venue hours are 10am-3pm
  • Cool Cars on Colorado: Cool Cars on Colorado is staged on Telluride’s iconic main street, Colorado Avenue. This unique main street venue consists of 2 separate 1 day stagings and registration is FREE. Car owners may choose to stage their car from 1 to 2 of the days. Cars must be staged and removed from main street each of the 2 days, no overnight staging allowed. Motorcycles are welcomed to stage at this venue as well! Staging days and hours are:
  • Friday, September 22nd from 5:00p-7:00p.
  • Saturday, October 1st from 10a – 3p
  • Special Venue Staging: If you have a military vehicle or a unique car that doesn’t fit into any category listed previously, send us an email or give us a call. We want to include you and your vehicle in our Festival and can discuss other display options with you.

If my car is staged one of the days on main street, do I need to purchase a Festival Ticket for that day?

If you plan to spend Saturday on main street with your car, looking at the other main street cars and having lunch or dinner in town then, No, you will not need a festival ticket. If you plan to stage your car for the day on main street and then head out to one of the other venues, (The Concours in Mountain Village or the Warbirds at the Airport) then, Yes, you will need a ticket. Upon registering your car or motorcycle at the Cars & Colors check in tent on the day of the event on Colorado Ave., you will be given a voucher for discount Festival tickets.

Will there be official judging of the cars at the Telluride Festival of Cars & Colors?

There will be no official judging for the Telluride Festival of Cars & Colors. We would like to promote our event as a ‘celebration’ of cars. Currently, however, we have plans to give out “People’s Choice Awards”, for these venues: The Concours events and the  Vintage Motorcycle venue. Along with the trophy, the winner will receive $10,000 worth of Gems & Jewelry presented by OMI Prive and Dolce.

What vehicles at the Festival will be eligible for the People’s Choice Award?

Only vehicles staged within the Concours and Vintage Motorcycle venues will be eligible.

I have registered my car/motorcycle for the Festival and received my confirmation…when will I receive my load in and parking instructions?

Load in and parking instructions will be sent be sent no later then September 15th, 2017. This packet will include directions to the different parking options and any parking passes that you will need for your trailer.

I am a member of a car club and there are several of us registered for the Festival; can we park together?

Yes. If you are all scheduled to be staged on Colorado Ave on the same day, you may park together as long as you are all in line together during the staging process.

If I have mechanical trouble with my vehicle, will there be a place to get assistance?

Yes. Locally there is a garage in Illium just outside of  Telluride called Telluride Tire and Auto Service. Their number is: 970-728-5171, address: 780 Vance Drive.
