Mini Jet Airshows
The “star” of MINI JET AIRSHOWS is a modified SubSonex Jet, otherwise known as JSX003. The SubSonex is an Experimental Jet that comes as a kit from the Sonex factory in Oshkosh, WI. It weighs 500 lbs, goes up to 300 mph, and it is fully aerobatic. This particular aircraft was the first kit ever sold and flown, and it has been flying for approximately 2 years. The jet is powered by the PBS TJ-100 engine from the Czech Republic, and at full throttle it is capable of producing 258 lbs of thrust while burning 40 gallons/hr of jet fuel. As beautiful as the jet is, there is no paint on it. It is completely wrapped in a vinyl covering, similar to a show car. The smoke system is now finished and putting out a tremendous smoke trail from start to finish, burning about 7 gallons of smoke oil per show.
If you’ve never seen a jet doing a full aerobatic routine in a small confined space, you’re in for a real treat!
Rocketbilly Jet Car
The JET SMART CAR is powered by a high performance General Electric T58-GE-3 gas turbine engine. This extreme high power to weight ratio jet engine pushes the Jet Smart Car with over 2,000HP in afterburner giving the capability of running in excess of 200MPH.

The Cars & Colors airport venue will be host to some great vintage War Birds on display with some aircraft giving rides for a fee. These aircraft are historic icons and enduring symbols of American Freedom. Among the great aircraft schedule to be at the Telluride Airport this year are; T-6 Texans, C-130, NAT – 50 and an SNB-5 among others..
Take a walk through the C-130 Military aircraft or book a ride on one of the vintage aircraft offering rides!
Special guest Warbird for 2018 was the TBM Avenger. This Navy aircraft helped turn the tide of WWII in the Pacific. The Avenger was capable of carrying a 2000 lb bomb, had unique folding wings, was launched most often from the deck of a Naval Aircraft Carrier and was the largest single engine bomber aircraft in the war. This particular aircraft is the first aircraft to be place on the Colorado National Register of Historic Properties, was the lead aircraft in the formation that flew over Queen Elizabeth’s coronation and appeared in Steven Spielberg’s movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”. The Commemorative Air Force Rocky Mountain Wing is proud to present this living piece of history and will be giving rides, for a fee, throughout the day on Saturday.
